A Warning To The Search Engine Optimization Amateurs

I’ve been involved with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) since 1996. I’ve been teaching legitimate ethical techniques at College for over 16 years. It wasn’t even called SEO then. And I’ve seen my full of unethical techniques that amateur SEO “Professionals” use in an effort to get their websites to the top of the organic search. Most are found out by the major search engines and stopped. One is so alarming I need to speak of it here.

Many sites I have seen which has been “tweaked out”’ by Search Engine Optimization Amateurs do NOT take into consideration the experience of the actual customer who read the copy of the site. They use paragraphs stuffed full of keyword phrases and over linked, that border on nonsense when read. Example: Our company makes widgets, our widgets are the best; don’t buy your widgets anywhere else. Widgets are great. We love widgets. Give me a break. What company approves this text? Who is steering this ship? No one.

Companies MUST remember that getting people to a website is not an easy task and a legitimate SEO professional will NOT do what I described above. They will create strong keyword rich NOT STUFFED or OVER LINKED copy that makes sense to the consumers who are reading it. And they will create plenty of informative copy to help customers make a decision. The more hyper-specific copy they create the better for the website.

The people whom are viewing your website MUST be able to understand what the website is all about. You would think this simple process would not go over looked. But it does.

It’s not just about being first on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP) It’s about getting customers to convert when they get there.

Stop it!
